Both Huntsville and Bracebridge will be taking it easy on the environment and the municipal pocket book this winter. The snow plows in both towns will begin using a pre-wetting system when they lay salt and sand on the roads. Tanks on the trucks, which were supplied by the District in 2008, spray out magnesium chloride when the roads are being treated. This helps to reduce the blow-off of salt and sand into the ditches and streams. In return, it saves money as well. Without the magnesium chloride, an estimated 70 per cent of blow-off can occur.
