Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary remains under the watchful eye of the Ministry of Natural Resources. The iconic animal rehabilitation centre was put under the microscope earlier this month when staff leveled several allegations of mismanagement, including animal abuse. A conservation officer toured the site again last week and did not report seeing any evidence of animal abuse. But the officer did express concern over the size of the enclosures the animals are kept in. And that some are too close to what would be their natural enemies. Ivan Langrish, Director of Communications for the MNR says the concerns found are not serious enough to close down the facility. He added staff at the sanctuary is working to the MNR’s satisfaction so far on getting a clean report as soon as possible.
