This Just In: Tenants Of Empire Hotel Could Survey Damage This Afternoon

Tenants of the Empire Hotel could be let back in as early as today to survey the damage. The owner of the 50 unit apartment building, Dave Kaye, says the insurance adjusters are doing another walk through today and he hopes some of the victims will get in this afternoon. Kaye says there’s quite a bit that’s salvageable on the first and second floor. Kaye adds he believes investigators are concentrating on the third floor electrical as a possible cause of the fire, but that’s unconfirmed at this time. And to the callers who contacted us concerned about an orange cat seen in a burnt-out window over the weekend, Kaye says, there have been sightings of a few cats that are alive and well. Over the weekend food and water was put out for them in an effort to keep them comfortable until their owners can get to them. The fire that tore through the apartment building last Thursday night caused an estimated $6 million worth of damage.
