You Need To Know: Donations Still Needed For Victims Of Empire Hotel Fire

All the tenants displaced by the Empire Hotel fire can pick up care packages tonight at the Huntsville Leigion. There will also be information provided to the victims on other assistance tonight between 5 and 7. The legion is located at 21 Veterans Way in Huntsville. Meantime, donations continue to pour in for the victims of the Empire fire. All the tenants that lived at the 50 unit apartment building in downtown Huntsville got out safely after flames ripped through the roof Thursday night. One tenant says the residents were used to ignoring the smoke alarms since they went off unnecessarily quite often. She says she noticed the smoke in the building and began banging on doors to get everyone out. She adds she left the building wearing what was on her back and she lost everything. Since the fire residents have been rallying behind the victims. Scotia Bank in the Huntsville Place mall held a bake sale the day after the fire and raised over one thousand dollars in donations by early afternoon. And the Salvation Army, the Table Soup Kitchen, Tall trees restaurant and the Legion all fed the tenants over the long weekend. The Salvation Army Church and Thrift Store in Huntsville is accepting donations for the victims.
