You Need To Know: More Residents Turing To Salvation Army For Help

The Salvation Army says more and more Muskokans are feeling the pinch in these tough economic times. A survey of Salvation Army staff across Canada found 72 per cent of respondents say demand for their food services has increased in the past year and it’s no different here in Muskoka. Huntsville’s Salvation Army Major Lisa O’Doherty says the need has definitely increased in the town. Bracebridge Salvation Army Corps Officer Captain Chris Rideout says this is the first year Bracebridge has run out of food and has needed to bring in food from alternate sources. Rideout adds there have been more residents coming to his Salvation Army for help in paying utility bills and for help in finding accommodations. Residents can continue to drop items off at the Manitoba Street location in Bracebridge or in Huntsville on Main Street.
