The Huntsville Muskoka Otters improved to 3 – 6 last night with a 7 – 5 win over Mississauga. Tyler McGee and Dane Horvat each had two goals for the Otters. John Chartrand made 16 saves. The Otters hit the ice again tonight against Villanova.
The Huntsville Muskoka Otters host Mississauga tonight. Game goes at 7:30 at the Jack Bionda arena. The Otters will be in Villanova Saturday night. The South Muskoka Shield is on the road this weekend hoping to keep their undefeated streak alive. The Shield travel to Elliot Lake on Saturday for a matinee game at 3 o’clock. Their next home game will be Friday October 16th against the Bradford Rattlers at 7:30 at the Gravenhurst Centennial Centre.
Huntsville High School junior boys soccer players won against the Parry Sound Panthers 3-1. Goal scorers were Daniel Taylor with 2 and Luke Alexander with 1. Next home game is on Tuesday against Almaguin and away on Wednesday against Rosseau Lake College.
The South Muskoka Shield continue their undefeated streak as they beat the Elliot Lake Bobcats 4 - 3. The Huntsville Muskoka Otters won on the road and under new head Coach Brian O’Leary. The Otters beat Collingwood 8 – 3.

It’s still a young season but the Huntsville Otters are just 1 and 5 going in to this Friday’s game against Collingwood. New Head Coach Brian O’Leary says he’s not looking to make any big changes, but the team does have to work on putting the puck in the net. The team has had a week to recover from last week’s 9 – 1 loss to Georgetown and will look to pick things up on Friday in Collingwood with a new face behind the bench. The Huntsville Muskoka Otters have a new head coach. After 6 years of leading the team, Tom McCarthy was suddenly let go last Thursday. This morning it was announced that Brian O’Leary has been appointed to the position. O’Leary brings to the bench over 17 years of coaching experience in Canadian junior hockey as both an assistant and head coach. O’Leary is native to Owen Sound and spent the last two years as assistant coach to a team in the East Coast Hockey League. O’Leary also has a solid record with the Owen Sound Attack Team. He helped to guide that team to four consecutive playoff appearances. O’Leary’s contract beings today with the first game this Friday night in Collingwood.
In local sports it’s a match between undefeated teams tonight. The South Muskoka Shield faces off against the Elliot Lake Bobcats in Elliot Lake. The Bobcats are 5 - 0 while the Shield remain 4 - 0. Last night the Shield picked up their fourth win of the regular season with an 8 – 1 win over Brock. Meantime the Huntsville Muskoka Otters lost 9 – 1 to Georgetown.
The Huntsville Muskoka Otters will be without head coach Tom McCarthy tonight when they hit home ice. McCarthy learned yesterday afternoon that his services were no longer needed after 6 years of leading the Ontario Provincial Junior A team. Jason Armstrong, part owner of the Otters would only say the team intends to move forward in a successful fashion and the letting go of McCarthy was a business decision. Armstrong added an announcement of who will replace McCarthy should come down early next week. Meantime, Kevin McGee has been appointed interim head coach.
The Huntsville Muskoka Otters look for a win this coming Friday after two losses this weekend. Saturday the Otters fell to Trenton 3-2 at the Cottage cup in Oakville. And it was 1-nothing for Milton yesterday. Next game for the Otters goes this Friday at the Jack Bionda when they face Georgetown.
The South Muskoka Shield is 2 – 0 in the regular season after an 11 - 5 win over Minden at home last night. The Huntsville Muskoka Otters are in action at the College Weekend in Oakville today. They play Trenton at 4:00pm.
