Town Won't Apply For Environmental Accreditation For UW Facility

The new Waterloo Research Facility would be gold certified if the town applied for the accreditation. Representatives from Greystone Project Management say although the building does not meet the highest of LEED standards, the building would likely be Gold or Platinum certified. The building will incorporate green plans that will alleviate costs including using geothermal and solar power. The building also includes touchless systems in the bathroom and has a 32-foot long, 14 foot high living wall. The wall is made of plant life and will help to purify inside air. Construction is currently 6-weeks behind, but Greystone says the project will be complete before next summer’s world leaders meetings. Due to time constraints for completion, the town will not be applying for the environmental accreditation.
