This Just In: Victim's Of Empire Fire Will Be Looked After For The Weekend

Support is flooding in for the victims of the fire at the Empire Hotel. Flames broke out at the 50 unit apartment building in downtown Huntsville last night around 9:30. All of the tenants were able to get out safely. The Salvation Army has managed to find accommodations for the displaced victims through to Tuesday. Many restaurants and local organizations have offered meals for the victims as well. Huntsville Mayor Claude Doughty praised the 8 fire departments that responded to the blaze and Huntsville’s Fire Chief Steve Hernen for his leadership. Doughty said, had it not been for the emergency service personnel’s quick thinking, there’s a good chance the whole block at Main and Centre Street could’ve been lost. Hernen says the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to determine the cause of the fire, but Heren stressed it does not appear to be intentional. Hernen added, it appears the fire started in the actic of building and the fire was limited to the roof structure. The estimated damage to the Empire Hotel is between 5 to 6 million dollars.
